Hello Sushant,

If we see Classification as a non-sap word, then Equipment/FLocn Category, Types of Technical Object etc are also a kind of classification of the Technical Objects. But a s an sap-word Classification is another such categorization of a Technical Object created through Tcode CL02. In both cases these represent a group of Technical Objects. Means for a given Equip/FL category or for a Technical Object type or for a Class, there will be several Technical Objects associated with. One to Many relation.

Now to discuss more about SAP classes, the main difference (or Advantage) is SAP Classes hold details of Technical object in the form of Characteristics where we can maintain the name plate specification of the equipments. Like for a motor: Make, Mode, Frame, KW, RPM, Voltage, Current, Connection type and so on. Suppose you have 10000 motors in your plant and have maintained all these details. Then through standard Tcodes like IH08 you can search for motors of certain KW and RPM where all they are installed and any such motor is lying anywhere unused etc. This is by giving the Class and Characteristic information in this Tcode.

Creating the Classes,Characteristics, assigning Characteristics to respective classes, Assigning a class to each equipment/flocn and then maintaining the values for these characteristics in each equipment/FLocn, is a very big job for large industries. But the benefits are many.

Hope I could throw light on the subject to some extent.
