Unable to maintain the long text in Russian Language

We are implementing PM module in Russia at one of the facility & came across the following issue:

When user logs into Russian language & tries to maintain the long text in the PM order, the text appears with invalid characters(primarily character ?).

At the same time, when he maintains it in the long text window which appears in the initial screen it works fine.

Any thoughts around why this issue appears in the long text & how it can be resolved.

SAP replied with the following message:

I checked this again. The problem is because you use the old
non-Unicode graphical editor for the long text. This problem should
not occur if you select the Unicode MS Word editor as the SAPscript
graphical editor(see note 742662).
This can be switched on via the report RSCPSETEDITOR.
SE38 -> RSCPSETEDITOR -> Execute
Select the checkbox for SAPscript and Smart Forms and then click on
the Activate button.
Then the Russian characters will be displayed correctly in the long
text via transaction IW32.
This setting affects the SAPScript editor system wide. It means that
MS Word will be the graphical editor used for editing all SAPScript
texts. This is recommended in a Unicode environment so that texts in
different languages can be edited and displayed. I tested turning on
the MS Word editor temporarily on your system and the Russian
characters are then fine in the long text.
