SAP PI 7.31 pointing to a central SLD on 7.0 version

Hi Experts,

We are in the process of starting the migration from PI 7.0 to PI 7.31 EHP.

With the help of basis team, installation of SAP PI 7.31 EHP is done successfully. Migration is to be done few months later, so to avoid maintenance of two SLD's we want all new systems(7.31) to point to the central SLD which is on the old system(7.0)?

** Old System(7.0) is having the central SLD.

** New System(7.31) is installed as a local SLD, but can be moved to the central SLD later.

So, is it possible that all new systems(7.31) can point to the central SLD which is on the old system(7.0)?

What would be the impact and other ways to handle such situation?

Thanks.

Regards,

Nidhi Srivastava

Hi Nidhi,

I would suggest to make your 7.31 system as a central SLD instead of old 7.0.

but anyway you can make 7.0 as central SLD but you would face many inconsistencies as you would be using the lower version SLD objects.

Thanks and Regards,

Naveen

Hi Naveen,

Thanks for your inputs.

Migration of 7.0 interfaces is scheduled in later months, so if we make new system(7.31) as central SLD we will have to maintain two SLD's until we complete the migration activities.

Can you tell few inconsistencies which will be faced due to incompatible versions?

Since, there are major differences between 7.0 and 7.31 version wrt. PI perspective. Are there similar kind of differences wrt. SLD?

Do suggest what would be the appropriate approach in this case.

Thanks,

Nidhi

Hi Nidhi,

Though there is minor differences between SLD the content versions would be different (EX:CIM content).

Even if you migrate your interfaces later it would be better to maintain SLD in new version.

Thanks,

Naveen

Hi Nidhi, I am aware of one know issue when you use PI 7.31 with its SLD on 7.0. The cache updates on PI 7.31 fail with error "Unable to find the SLD element". SAP note 1521021 provides the prerequisite for the error and a work around.

In case you wish to simplify the maintenance of two SLDs, look at the options on SLD content synchronization

Hi,

Thanks for your inputs.

SAP note - 954820 - Compatibility of SLD in the system landscape.

This SAP note gives an idea about the incompatibilities issues with different releases of SLD. It's not specifically mentioned as our requirement but gives a better idea.
