ALE or EDI to transfer idocs between two independent SAP ECC systems?

Hi All,

Can we go for ALE to transfer the idocs between two independent SAP ECC systems. Basically I got this doubt because most of the  examples for ALE transfer published in SDN are between two different clients.

Thanks,

Gowrinath.

Hello,

Both technologies use idocs for the transfer of data between two systems. EDI is the industry standard and ALE is developed by SAP. Yes in your case you can use ALE to transfer idocs between your two SAP systems.

Hi Fionnuala,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

The only doubt I have is whenever we create distribution model, the logical system which we maintain for receiving system should be assigned to client. But how we come to know the client of external SAP system. Does distribution model is used to transfer idocs between same R/3 instance(not to external system)?

Please clarify.

Thanks,

Gowrinath.

Hi Gowrinath,

You're welcome, sorry for the late reply.

Regarding distributing data to an external SAP system you can use
the distribution model (BD64) as these are 2 SAP systems involved (so its ALE).
