Using a localization in a different country

Hi experts,

I am trying to implement EA-PS (Public Sector) to a country which doesn't have any localization.

However,  knowing that are several similarities (legislation, reporting, procedures,...) with this one (LOCPTFM – Portugal), is it possible to use Portugal localization in a different country?

Hi,

Using LOCPTFM in another country should not pose a problem. However, you should fully be aware of all the consequences when activating localization. As first step, you can consult this note  989420 - Note overview for LOCPTFM

It gives technical pre-requisites of the activation, but there are obviously also functional impacts in the system.

At OSS note we found a way to instal the Add-on:

but we can´t find the path/file.

About this subject, SAP has told us :

"After checking with Product Manager,  I´m sorry i can not provide you other answer but t he LOCPTFM Add-On is restricted to Public Sector Portugal only .

In addition you should join an online community and knowledge repository for global exchange of ideas and technical knowledge around my SAP ERP for Public Sector.

Is there any mandatory requisite to fullfil?

Well, SAP would know better Though, it could have been just misunderstanding.

However, if they insist that LOCPTFM should be used exclusively in Portugal (maybe, for commercial reasons), I don't think you can do anything about this

Hello Pedro, 

The use of a Portuguese localization in another country is highly
discouraged at SAP. There are several reasons for it:

* A localization is based on country codes (usually)  and that means
that there's a certain degree of manipulation required to "adapt” it for
other country.

* Even if the localization working for an additional country code, some
objects referenced in the program, could be exclusively from the Portuguese
country version, and not available in Angola, for that reason, it may not work
either. Or it may work only partially.

* In case the system works properly, you need to consider that every change
that the Portuguese government publishes and is subsequently adapted in the
localization, may and probably will, affect your adapted localization in
Angola, rendering the system unstable.

* Additionally, as you mentioned, the laws are similar, but never the same
in every aspect. This will require additional amendments to the software that
will have to be maintained.

* A localized solution is maintained by a team following the changes in
the legislation. Regrettably there's no SAP person in Angola that would
follow the legislation in that country and if a legal change is missing, any
Angolan customer using a Portuguese localization may be liable to
penalties and fine.

* SAP is committed to assure the integrity of the solution. Not having a
local representative to look after the Portuguese localization in Angola,
it's a big concern in terms of maintenance and customer support.  You
need to understand that if the software is not working as expected, customers
will contact SAP and we don't have currently the resources to deal with the
situation.

I hope that there's more clarity now, as why we restrict the usage of some
localizations. Bear in mind that what I have mentioned are only SOME of the
main reasons for not enabling localizations to other countries that easily.
At the end is the customer what we need to care for.
