Hi Sine,

There is no problem in defining Functional Location, since this is purely depends on your requirement.

I worked with a mining client, where they dont use equipment, only functional location. They had two categories of functional location, one category is to locate the functional location and second category are maintainable units.

When you read SAP definitions for FL - It is a physical location or place, does not move often but Equipments - Machines, Maintenance object, which can be moved from one place to other frequently.

Rest read the links provided by other experts for exact information.

Regards

Terence

Hello Sine,

Though looks simple, this is a query which needs enough research before implementing.  This is because, when we settle for a model like all functional locations, all equipments or combination of both, and if combination, what extent the FL hierarchy and then What levels the Equipment hierarchy, what  we will be loosing in the model we are going, is often comes to light when it is too late. A hierarchical structure often has advantages like data inheritance, usage period and factors relating to MTTR and MTBR computations, and also selection screen query related conveniences. So here your decision about the model should keep the end in mind. Means keeping in view mainly your report requirements. One such case is discussed here in this document.

Bonjour monsieur Jogeswara,

Merci pour votre comprehension monsieur Jogeswara,

Hi there,

Have at look at below posts.

To put things in context - try to mock-up a Functional Location structure, install a few Equipments under it and then have a look in IH01.

Cheers,

Hello,

You can check out the following

Functional location - Technical Objects (CS-BD/PM-EQM) - SAP Library

Equipment - Technical Objects (CS-BD/PM-EQM) - SAP Library

To put it simply, FL is usually a place, location, where something is installed, or a system/part of a big system, while equipment is an individual movable object that can be installed there.

FLs and EQs can be applied to different real world objects depending on company's needs.
