Max length of E-mail Address

Hi gurus.

Now I'm trying to maintain e-mail address via ALE/ADRMAS03.

Data length of idoc(*1) and target table(*2) is defined as 241 characters.

*1)ADRMAS03-E1BPADSMTP-E_MAIL

*2)ADR6-SMTP_ADDR

I created idoc data, it contains  241 characters for e-mail, and sent it to SAP ERP,

but, in WE02,  it was shows only 132 characters.

I also checked table EDID4(IDOC data record) but it was same,

only 132 characters registered.

I also tried to create data via IDOC test tool(WE19),

but it can't enter data more than 132 characters.

I know customer and vendor maintenance screen(XD01/XK02) defines

output length as 132 characters,

but it is strange that data is shorten in IDOC data record or IDOC test tool.

(because, IDOC segment is defined as 241 characters)

Does anyone know it is normal restriction of address service?

132 byte is correct or not?

Best Regards,

OSS answered as follows.

We cannot treat with field longer than 132 characters.

please kindly check the note no. 600293,

Fields longer than 132 characters, can not be edited in the IDoc transactions.

This has technical reasons we can't overcome short-term, and we decided from data loss by permitting these fields.

Also the test tool WE19 only supports fields with lengths up to 132 characters.

Because of its character as only a supporting test tool, it does not provide the whole functionality available during processing of IDoc messages.

so the 132 character restriction is the standard design.

So, I will close this thread.

Thanks.
