SAP Java Log Viewer and Security Audit Log

Hi Gurus,

We are currently on SAP Netweaver Portal 7.31, and we have Security Audit Log as per Security Audit Log of the AS Java - System Security - SAP Library

However when we go into the Java Log Viewer http://<host>:<port>/nwa/logs we cannot display the Security Audit Log (security_audit*).

Is there additional configuration to allow Java Log Viewer to display Security Audit Log of AS-JAVA?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Deepak,

First off do you get any errors? Or are there just no logs to view?

Are you running windows or linux/unix?

Security Audit Log of the AS Java - System Security - SAP Library  not same one as you have.

Please check the location of the log files on OS level as well.

JOhan

Hi Johan,

We are running Windows here.

the file is there under .\log\system\security_audit*

It's just that  I can't find/load it in Java Log Viewer.

Java Log Viewer can find/load application log, trace log, security log, but not security_audit*

HI,

What do you actually see if you access this can you add screenshot? Secondly are you getting any errors?

Are you accessing the link directly or browsing via portal page i.e. logon -> Troubleshooting -> Log viewer?

Hi Johan,

please see the attached screenshot.

There isn't security_audit*.log in the list.

It is the same whether accessed directly via shortcut or via Troubleshooting -> Log Viewer.

Hi,

Log onto NWA (Netweaver Administrator) as the administrator user.

Click on configuration tab -> Click on Infrastrastructure tab ->

Click on log configuration

You will see the below window:

Log: Configuration Java ( Take in mind example I am using is portal java only system)

To configure your security audit log browse to the following location:

ROOT CATEGORY -> System -> Security -> Audit

This is where you specify the selection you want to activate log for and the severity of logging you want to activate, taking into account the more you select the bigger the log files will be.

If you click on Audit the yellow folder you can see the limits and log location according to my understanding.

You should now see the log file on the location where you previously were looking not sure if a restart is necessary to activate sorry for the late reply hope this helps.

Hi Johan,

I have no issue in configuring the security audit log.

They are there as per the configuration.

My problem is in trying to view this log using SAP Java Log Viewer.

Hi Deepak,

On the screen for your log viewer if you click on view do you have the following options:

If you do please select security log. In my case security audit log is located under authentication logs.

Kind Regards,

Johan

Hi Johan,

by selecting the "Security Log" or "Authentication Logs", I only get "security_xx.log".

What I need is to get "security_audit_xx.log".

Do you get "security_xx.log" or "security_audit_xx.log" in your case?

Best Regards.

Hi,

In my portal I click on Troubleshooting -> Logs and Traces

Then my log viewer opens as per below if it does not list the file you want to see it under any of the views by clicking on view and in this case displaying SAP logs you must change you view perhaps.

Click on view -> Expert View -> Then it will list files by name

If the log file is enabled you will see it here in the list somewhere.

Johan

Hi Johan,

strange, in my system, DEV, QA, PRD, "security_audit_xx" is not displayed in the drop-down list, even though the files exist at the OS level.

Do you have any other idea on why it doesn't appear in my Java Log Viewer?

Best Regards.

Hi,

At this point if you say the files are there on OS level and not visible in NWA.

I would suggest you at this point log a ticket to SAP.
