'Sample'/Pooled sample/ 'Physical Sample'

Respected,

I have some work experience in fabrication industry and having procurement inspection with Plates,Bolts & Nuts.

We receive Bolts in gunny bags and carry out the receiving inspection.

Ex:up to 5000 bolts we take 5 bolts(5 sample units /5 samples ) and carry out  characteristics inspection.Generally we call as '5 samples'.

Head A/f- 5 (S.procedure) x1pc(sample unit)  =5pc

Head a/c-5 x1 pc=5pc

Thickness-5x1pc=5pc------ In this case we take 5pc(5 samples) as Total sample size

In SAP,it is noting  "Pooled sample" &"Physical samples" in more areas.Please guide me here if 5000 bolts received in 10 bags(10x500no's) in terms of QPV2.

Very Important this basic guidance will be much more helpful for learning SAP QM further.

Karthik

Hi

As per requirement I don't think you are required pooled sample or physical sampling in SAP terms.

If your sample size remains constant as 5 the use sampling procedure(T-code QDV1) with fixed sample or if sample size varies as per the lot size means then use sampling scheme for that.

Hi

Thank you for your reply.

Please guide me the Concept of Physical samples.with one good example.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

there are three types of physical samples in the system.

1. Primary samples

2. Pooled samples

3. Reserve samples or control samples or storage samples.

Lets say I received a material from a vendor 100 L solution supplied in two containers each 50 L.

Now I have to check this material . so I need to take samples from each container lets say I take 0.25 L from each container.

so my primary samples will become two (each 0.25 L) as I take sample from each container. Primary samples are the ones directly taken from inspection lot qty.

Now the above two primary samples are mixed to make a pooled sample. In my example it will become 0.25+0.25 = 0.5 L. Pooled samples are created by mixing primary samples. these pooled sample is used for analysis.

Reserve samples are taken from lot directly and not used for immediate analysis. they are stored for future reference as per regulatory norms. Normally they are destroyed once the expiry of the material is reached. in our case let say 0.5 L taken separately and stored

How many primary samples, how many pooled samples and how many reserve samples to be taken is defined in sample drawing Procedure.

hope this helps.

Thanks

Hi Sir,

Thank you for your great support,

Please explain about deference between 'Sample' and 'partial sample',hence I am from Engg .fabrication industry,these terms are not found in Domain and I am getting more confusion about Sample Size,Physical sample,Partial sample.....

Please help me out..

Hi sir,

Thank you for your great guidance,With one example ,Please explain the concept of

1.  MIC control indicators -Additive sample / Destructive Insp.

2.  Partial sample concept and partial samples number assignment in Plan.

With my knowledge,I have been  struggling a lot to understand in a correct method from SAP help, since i have been from fabrication domain&no sample drawing concept.Is this partial sample used in Chemical / Pharma only other wise in fabrication also?.herewith I am giving my previous industry exp.please guide me in this scenario partial sample if applicable.

As of now, I understand about

Sample:One or More Number of 'Sample Units'(least qty can be inspected) taken from inspection Lot.

Ex:For All Lot size recieved, We check 3pc for Length;3pc for Dia.,3pc for Length ---Created Sample size in QDV1 with 3 (fixed sample)

In this case Sample Unit: 1 x pc; No.of sample units(Sample Size) =3

In Q.Plan for operation 10:Dimensional inspection:(Non Destructive test)

MIC1-length= 3x1pc =3pc;

MIC2- Dia.= 3x1pc =3pc;

MIC3- length.= 3x1pc =3pc;

In Q.Plan for operation 20:Hardness inspection:(Destructive test)

MIC1-Hardness-3x1pc=3pc

In Q.Plan for operation 30:Salt Spray inspection:(Destructive test)

MIC1-Spray test-3x1pc=3pc

In above I used to take 3pc for Dimensional,those pieces can be used for Hardness i.e 3pc for operation 10 and 20 will be covered.After hardness test those bolts cant be re issued to store.

In above operation 30,3pc seperately required for salt spray test.=3pc.

So I have to consider total 6 pc.Here any Partial sample concept works?

Please guide me.

Hi Karthik,

It is not a good practice to re-open the threads which are already closed. Kindly open a new thread and post your question.

Thanks
