Hello Experts,
we have 300 users in our SAP system.
i want to understand that what will be the recommended RAM size for 300 users
we have 88 GB of RAM do we need to increase the size as sometimes or you can say at month end system goes very slow database response time goes very slow all users start taking there reports.
will increase of RAM size solve this problem or what can i do to solve this slowness problem.
please provide your valuable solutions to solve my problem
thanks
Aditya Rathore
Aditya ,
If your system has only a single server, DB and SAP AP combined, then you will want to make sure that PHYS_MEMSIZE is ~ 50% (PHYS_MEMSIZE = 50%) of whole and that the DB is setup to use the other 50%. Kavitha has links to SAP notes. If the 88GB is on a server dedicated to SAP - then you should not have to touch it - it will default to use all the memory. And this is significantly larger than should be needed.
Also, you mentioned you recenting increased memory - make sure there are no zero memory profile parameters manually set at a lower number than would AUTO-calculate. See the list in 2085980 - New features in memory management as of Kernel Release 7.40 (assuming you are running 740).
If memory is not the problem I suggest the usual :
Buffers: ST02 (minimal swapping / high hit ratio)
Work processes:
Hope this helps.
Brian.

Hi Aditya,
88 GB of RAM for just 300 users is usually more than sufficient. To prove if you do not belong to some exception situation, please specify;
- what is your SAP system (is it ABAP system, Java system, HANA system , etc)
- what is your business scenario
- how did you allocated the 88 GB RAM to the SAP software: did you increase some memory startup parameters, or you just have this memory available on HW level without special changes to parameters of the SAP systems? If this is the case, maybe SAP system runs in reality with only for example 4 GB and this would not be sufficient for 300 users...
Best regards,
Sylvia

Hello Sylvia,
thanks for the prompt reply
we recently increase the RAM size but didn't do any changes in parameters
can you please l=help me out like
changes in which parameters
and what will be the value we should use in that as per our 88 GB RAM.
we are on ABAP system EHP4
thanks
Aditya Rathore
Hi Aditya,
88GB for 300 users is way more than enough. You need to check main SAP memory parameter PHYS_MEMSIZE. And adjust all other parameters based on this value.
Below are some of the places to look at. If you provide more details about your landscape, it will be easy to assist. What system, DB, OS, Kernel etc?
Memory Allocation and Analysis - Application Server Infrastructure - SCN Wiki
Note 88416 - Zero administration memory management for the ABAP server for Windows
Note 941735:SAP memory management for 64-bit Linux systems
Memory Management under UNIX - SAP Memory Management (BC-CST-MM) - SAP Library

Kavitha Rajan.
