Re-initilize data

We are trying to reload data to the warehouse.  If we do an initialization will it delete the previous data in that environment?  Will all data sources, cubes etc.  establish a new starting point.  We need to test our process chains for time and data.  Will reinitialization work or just make things worse?

I am sorry if this question is unclear. I am new at SAP BI and all work was done by a contraction team and tehy are all gone and no future support.  I have developed reports but have little knowledge on the technical end.  Our team is in need of questions to be answered but no teacher.

Hi Bruce,

Assumed as info pack initialization.

Re-init won't delete any data. It just set new delta pointer as per the needs.

In case if you need to delete whole data from target and again reload then Using SE14, you can Delete all Cube/DSO tables data. but its time consuming one.Lets try to delete dso/cubes data thru programs/process chains

Seek basis team help they can clear whole DB data.

Later you can do the reinit(before doing, please check and delete old init if exists) your loads and load the data.

in case of LO Data sources, before the load  we need to delete and refill the setup tables.

Not sure what you need to do, can you explain your needs in detailed level so that we can suggest right approaches to full fill your needs.

Thanks

Hi Bruce,

In SAP Data warehousing, we have two ways of setting up initialization: One at ECC & other in BI. If we set up initialization in ECC for a data source, then delta Pointer & delta queue  is set up in the source and you can get the created/modified data to BI. If we set initialization in BI for a data target, then we can get delta requests after the pointer is set at the target level.

If we want to reinitialize again in ECC, then you have to delete the init pointer which was set at last. If you re initialize there will be no loss in data as it will just set the pointer again for the data source in ECC.

In BI, if we reinitialize the data targets like DSO, cubes, the delta pointer will again be set.  Before reinitializion pls. check the requirement and the data you want to display at the report level.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Saranya

Hi Bruce,

Are you doing reload for the entire data flow or what do you want to do with reload.

Initialization would not delete any data, Delta is related to a particular datasource. It will set the delta pointer to load the deltas from that point onwards. But again if you have set the delta initialization already, you need to delete it first then only you can reinitialize. But be careful before doing this, are you trying to perform this Dev or Quality in which environment.

Question your self why you want to go for re-initialization, what exactly is your requirement. There are chances that will get disturb your existing deltas.

Regards,

Vengal.

HI Bruce,

Your question is open and very generall in nature. What kind of initialization do you intend to do. Why do try to reload data, all the data, particular cubes ? To delete data in the data providers you need to explicitly delete data selectin such an option, deleting request one by one or schedulin a process chain with delete component. Ask better question pls.
