Hei,
can we SAP ERP Industry Solution for Automotive in SAP ERP system which have been used without IS-Automotive (or any other IS solution) for several years?
Does anybody have experience in switching IS-Automotive into productive system?

Yes, but not recently in Productive Environment. (One in 2006, and another in 2011.No problems of note.)
Carefully check the Dependencies and Additional Prerequisites necessary to activate the Business Function Set. And any SAP Notes.
And of course, you have to have a good migration/implementation plan.
