SAP Migration of BI dual stack system from Max DB to ASE

Hello Colleagues,

I am having BI/BW system of following configuration, which is a dual stack split system and having same DB :

Current Landscape: (NW 7.02 SPS16 BW, Distributed )

1. ABAP Stack
SID : ABA
Primary Application Instance Hostname :host1
Database Host : host2
DB SID: ABA
Database Type: Max DB
OS : Windows

2. JAVA Stack
SID:  JAV
Primary Application Instance Hostname : host1
Database SID : ABA (same as ABAP SID)
Database Host : host2
Database Type : Max DB
OS: Windows

Desired Target Landscape
1. ABAP Stack
SID : ABA
Primary Application Instance Hostname :host3
Database SID : ABA
Database Host : host4
Database Type : Sybase ASE
OS : Linux
2. JAVA Stack
SID:  JAV
Primary Application Instance Hostname :host3
Database SID : ABA
Database Host : host4
Database Type : Sybase ASE
OS : Linux

In this scenario, will below TO LEVEL steps will work :

1. Install ASCS & SCS in host3 .

2. Perform parallel export import from source DB (Max DB) to target DB (ASE).

3. Install PAS .

Please provide your suggestion how to proceed forward.

Regards,

Nilutpal.

Hello Johan & Maria,

Thanks for your valuable inputs . Yes it's a SYSTEM COPY activity with OS DB migration (heterogeneous). I aspire to know whether after SCS, ASCS installation & DB export - import , will it allow me to install  PAS instance where JAVA SID != DB SID as I heard that JAVA SID should be same as SYBASE DB SID till ASE 15.7 .

Please throw some light over here .

Hi,

Hi Nilutpal,

To my knowledge the DB SID and SAP SID should always be the same. So if you have a dual stack and want to split that to a different java server/db then this split instance will have its own sid. Am I understanding your scenario correctly?

Kind Regards,

Johan

Hi,

We were having dual stack earlier where application & DB SIDs both were same. Then dual stack split happened for the system where ABAP SID & JAVA SID got changed as both are in same instance . Secondly DB SID name remained same with two schema , one for ABAP & one for JAVA.

Hi Nilutpal,

Your scenario my understanding.

So you have JAV which is your java sid still accessing same DB as ABA sid for ABAP both running one one database with DBSID as ABA.

It seems to me the dual stack split was done with Keep DB option (MCOD).

For your desired lanscape it should have been done with option Move DB option (non-MCOD), where the new Java systems gets installed with an own additional database.

See also SAP note SAP Note 1797362 Dual-Stack Split for Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver.

1. Run dual stack split with non-MCOD option create JAV instance with its own DB with MaxDB still.

2. Then do migration of above environments to Sybase.

Kind Regards,

Johan

Thanks Nicolas for your help. We have finally decided to split the DB both for ABAP & JAVA & then proceed as SYBASE doesn't support keeping different SID from R3.

Nilutpal.

Hi Nilutpal.

You can also review the following:

Doc 8234 advised by Maria is good.

Remember the SMIGR reports also and where the generated files are stored.

Hello Nilutpal,

This question sounds more in the System Copy scope than SAP ASE scope.

You may want to check the documentation about System Copy from SAP MarketPlace:

SAP Service Marketplace -> Products -> Installation & Upgrade Guides -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) -> Installation

See section "Installation - SAP NetWeaver Systems" -> System Copy.
