DB2 upgrade on AIX from v9.5 to v10.5

0 Kudos

Hi, we are planning to upgrade our SAP ECC6.0 on AIX 6.1 from DB2 v9.5 to DB2 v10.5

Which would be the preferred option ?

9.5 --> 9.7 --> 10.5 or

9.5 --> 10.1 --> 10.5

Since we would be upgrading within the same downtime, can we continue directly from 1st version upgrade to next and do the post processing steps after final upgrade to 10.5?

As per SAP Note 1851853 -- we have to put in minimum Basis patch 27 and implement SAP Note 1835822.

Should this patch be done before the database upgrade or after ? Any implications ?

Thanks in advance

Warren

Hello Mario,

1-First of all update your SAP kernel to latest level possible and then basis package level to minimum level required, Basis27 in your case.

2-Then, as mentioned on previous post, you must upgrade your database to DB2 9.7 , before upgrading to 10.5.

Note 1332109 - DB6: Upgrade to Version 9.7 of DB2

3-Do the post processing of each individual step, do not postpone postprocessing of current steps to the end!

In other words, after you'll execute 9.7 upgrade , do the postprocessing of 9.7 upgrade process. Then start with the execution of DB2 10.5 Upgrade!

I hope they help,

Regards and good luck,

Serhat

Thanks Serhat

I followed the steps to upgrade to v9.7 first and postprocessing, followed by upgrade to v10.5 and did the post processing.

Except that I did the SAP basis support packs after that.

But it all went through fine

Thanks

Hi Warren,

Actually, it does not matter which option you choose, both are ok.

See the following note:

1837312 - DB6: Upgrade to Version 10.5 of DB2 for LUW

and check the guide that is mentioned in this note:

http://service.sap.com/instguides --> Database Upgrades --> DB2 UDB:

In  this guide you can see:

===============================================================================

Database-Related Restrictions

If you are running DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Version 9.5 or lower, you first have to upgrade the database to DB2 Version 9.7 or 10.1

===============================================================================

Regarding the note, I recommend you to apply this patch before the upgrade.

Regards,

Hugo
