Hi DJ,

LSMW is a tool to help you migrating data to SAP with no necessary knowledge of ABAP.

LSMW works like a transaction robot, or, in other words, it's like a program that will run the standard Transaction filling the data fields and then saving the transaction. It's a good way to migrate data, but you have better options as LSMW uses the dialog sessions of your SAP target system (with no parallelism for example) and is more suitable for errors

The SAP Best Practice for Data Migration is the best approach for Data Migration projects. It uses a ETL tool called SAP Data Services with SAP pre-defined content to load many master and transaction data. This business content call IDOCs/BAPIS directly by this tool and have many objects already done, with that, you can have a parallelism as these process can run in the background work process

Other advantage of the use of this methodology is the advantage of validation of SAP customizing data inside Data Services, in other words, Data Services will check first if one Master or Transactional data is ready to be loaded (validating through SAP customizing tables) before send this data to SAP.

You can have more information about this process on this link:https://www.google.com.br/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CC4QFjAD&url=...

Best Regards,

Rodrigo.

The official name of the current SAP Best Practice for Data Migration package is Rapid Data Migration to SAP ERP and SAP CRM V3.42. Check SAP Note 1791183 for the complete documentation.
