slow import of Excel into PDM

Trying to import an Excel workbook with two tabs: one for Table and one for Table.Column.  There are about 1500 rows on the Table tab, with Name, Code and Comment. On this tab there is also a column with the comma-delimited list of column codes.  On the Table.Column tab there are 3700 rows listing the Columns by Parent and Code, including a column for Comment.  Many of the Table Columns do not have a Comment, so they are simply excluded from that Excel Tab.  

It seems that PowerDesigner just cannot handle this quantity of import data.  The import process seems to be making progress looking at the Windows Task Manager both PowerDesigner and Excel are consuming CPU and memory.  How long should it take to import this quantity of Tables and Columns?

Hi TonjaMarie,

The Excel Import has a new option, "Check Data Integrity", available in v16.5 SP05 which, when unselected, allows you to opt out of validating your model objects during the import, and which can provide significant performance improvements. You can confirm data integrity after the import by selecting Tools > Check Model (or pressing F4).

As the Excel Import is (only) an extension, can it also work on v16.5 SP04 PL01, or does it include specific feature/definitions only available in SP05 ?

Hi TonjaMarie,

What version of PD are you using?  Is it 32 or 64 bit version?

Does the import ever complete?  If so, how long does it take?  If not, how long do you let it run before closing PD?

Are you importing this into a new or existing model?
