Analyze Gap : Enterprise Architecture (modeling)

Hi,

How do you monitor and evaluate your current architecture versus the future one?

What's your process?

Do you do manually?

Do you think that involving a dimension of time (timeline), as the time interval spaces, would be an interesting functionality to reflect current changes?

Do you think that establishing a timeline, as the time interval spaces, would be an interesting functionality to meet in order to be able to be aware of changes between a model (architecture) vs being a future model ?

The following image shows the visualization of a diagram for a given model. At the bottom of the chart the timeline found there. The user can move a cursor on the timeline to view the changes made to the model over the stored versions. The user can be aware of objects, metadata, that were deleted or created depending on the version of the objects stored in the repository.

Thank you,

Hi Benoit,

Today, the best way to compare current and future state models is to use the compare feature, and filter results or export them to share the results.

However, a more visual compare is a better way.  We already have added visual compare (show two diagrams with highlighted differences between them) in the new PowerDesigner Web, which cna be used to do as you describe, between any pair of models.  While not a sliding timeline, you can run the compare between any two versions of the model (using versions to represent current and future state - we can use branches or folders to manage multiple future state scenarios) to see the gaps between different start, middle and end states.

The idea of a sliding timeline is definitely interesting.  It is one we have considered for a future release, and if more people like it, it can help me see how interesting it is for all.

Hi David,

Any plan for visually comparing 2 different model?

- Comparing pdm1 in DEV and pdm1 in TEST (promoted from DEV) branches

- Comparing 2 different EAMs for as-is and to-be
