Characteristics value based variant material explosion

Hi,

We have a requirement where for variant material we have 2 characteristics, REMARKS & LENGTH. Variant material need to be exploded based on REMARKS Characteristics & Length Characteristics would be dynamic range from 1000 to 36000mtrs.So main purpose of length is information purpose only. Now i have created configurable material MG_Variant for which I have maintained a class REMARKS with 2 characteristics

1. REMARKS (Characteristics)
2. LENGTH (Characteristics).

Now i have created a variant material & assigned configurable material in MRP3 where system populates both characteristics to enter their values. Here I want to specify on REMARKS characteristics & LENGTH I don't want to specify in variant material. So at time of sales order creations when I enter configurable material system explode Characteristics which need to be filled .Here based on characteristics REMARKS even if Characteristics LENGTH is empty. (As LENGTH field is for information)System has to explode by considering only REMARKS characteristics. But it’s not working if I maintain Length characteristics value with some data or empty in sales order.Please suggest where I am doing wrong.How can i bypass LENGTH Characteristics based variant material explosion.

Suggestion would be appreciated.

Use exclusion of length characterstic using below report . and variant matching will ignore the value maintained for length characterstic while matching variant and pick material variant based on remark characterstic only.
