Device Info Record for various installations

Former Member

Hello everybody!

Just a basic question: Is there any advantage of using an individual device information record for various installations - same configuration - instead of using one record for all installations?

The number of registers and their configuration has to be the same for all installations.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Thorsten,

The device category is used for this purpose. Grouping the devices with the same characteristics. So, after configuring the device category to allow device info records, just create different devices with device serials (repetition of serials allowed). There is no harm of creating a different device category for each device info record, but it would be unnecessary and hard to manage.

If you are asking about creating one device category and one device info record only and installing it to different installations, then this question comes to mind: How can one distinguish the devices on different installations?  I've never tried, but installing the same device to a huge number of installations (thousands? millions?) may create some performance problems. Also, some standard and internal functions may return fixed number of records on internal tables and structures and export parameters. So having -let's say a million- installations with the same device info record may risk your design's consistency.

Hi Thorsten,

Using the device information record for multiple installation means, you are doing billing-related installation of the same device info record into multiple utility installations. This will help you to use the billing information of this device in all the related installations.

For example, the reads from the device information record can be used to bill all the related installations.

Hello - thank you both for your answers!

As far as I understand now, a single device information record for various installations makes sense, if the corresponding energy quantities and/or money amounts are to be billed together. For example, if I have a POD with various installations that are to be treated as one entity for billing, right?

Thorsten

Hi Thorsten,

For billing, though its a same read from the same device info record, Installations will be considered as separate entities. You would have same meter read order but different billing orders. You can even bill just one of the billing orders, and status of the meter read shown as partially billed.
