Support pack 6 installed and still happenening. Please help.
Is it possible it has something to do with visual studio? I found this hotfix link when searching the dll that is being listed as the fault.
support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/958036
there is a dll being installed by crystal reports it seems and this has something to do with tabs and activeX.
mfcm80u.dll has something to do with customization tools and may be overwritting the pre-existing dll
Am I barking up the wrong tree?
I really need this fixed or else I need a refund because this program is useless if I cannot create any new reports.
Thanks

John,
I am not sure about visual studio.
What I know is for access issue it was crashing only on a second table. If you have an old report with two or more tables you can test if it still works.
One user actually used a workaround solution to add a second table in CR XIR2 and then continuing design in CR 2011. It worked well till he got the registry key solution.
Try a report with already linked tables, would it crash CR?
Hi John
I'm pretty sure that visual studio is the wrong tree
Go to the File menu and select "Options". Hit on the Database tab. See if it helps to go with just Tables. Or see if you can limit that amount of information the report needs to bring in will help. (E.g.; Table name Like, etc.). Sometimes the amount of data about the DB the report engine needs to inhale is too big and then things happen...

Hi John
Please ensure that the %TEMP% folder has read / write permissions.

What is the Datasource of the report?
There is a known problem with DB2 iSeries ODBC driver:
1621593 - Crystal Reports 2011 crashes when trying to link tables in DB2 iSeries

It could be similar issue. You can activate CRLogger following:
1603398 - How to perform a trace in Crystal Reports using crlogger?
Review the log file and if the last record of the log (the crash time) refers to some access error then the registry key "AccessMode" is your solution.
You may also try to disable the Automatic Smart linking (File > Options > Database tab )
and
try with a different driver. If it works you can design report with one driver and then use it with a different.
Vitaly
Tried AccessMode Registry fix, no change
Tried disabling Automatic Smart Linking, no change
Any ODBC driver causes the program to crash when connecting to SQL database when I click on the link tab
So frustrating - any other ideas?
This machine used to have CR XI installed on it but since has been uninstalled.
