AFBN - RAFABNEW - not opening a new depr area

Dear SAPer colleagues,

One client has activated a new depreciation area 10 (OABC/OAYZ etc..) and run AFBN (RAFABNEW) to open a new depreciation area for the existing asset master.

Now we have encountered an issue because not all but a few assets to have failed to open the new Depreciation area in their master data and subsequenty (transfer) transaction only occured in those depreciation area without new Depre ara 10. AS03 does not even show the depreciation area10.

Now we tried to rerun AFBN but neither processed nor errors shows any assets for the combination of company code and depre area 10.

Would any of you be able to share your expertise as to how it would then be possible to add a new depre area 10 to these errorneous asset master in one way or another?

Thanks in advance

Taro

Hi all,

Just a note to share what I had found out as a root cause on AFBN,

AFBN has an embedde logic to exclude the asset master that have been deactivated (deactivation date field is filled), which was the reason why some assets were not copied across.

Hello Taro,

That is true, AFABN is not working for deactivated assets.

But what I've learned that this program is sample program so you can copy it and modify for you needs.

RAFABNEW is definitely not a sample program.  It is fully supported by SAP and can be used in a productive environment without any cause.

Nathan,

Of course it is standard program.

But there are cases when you can modify it.

Here is an example in OSS note:

301113 - Restrictions of RAFABNEW

Here is the note about procedure how to setup new area:

430618 - Procedure for setting up new depreciation area

and there is step 5 which says: "Adjust/create a program for setting up the new area." it is not necessary, but you should keep in mind that it could be an option.

And here is oss note regarding exactly this topic:

432302 - RAFABNEW skips deactivated assets

As a solution you can modify this program.

Best regards,

Sergey

I agree.  I've often commented here on SCN that it's probably the most modified program in FI-AA.  But it's not a sample... members need to know that it's a legit fully supported and productive option.

Hi Taro,

Have you activate the depreciation area in the asset class of the assets in OAYZ? Have you selected the check box Leave values initial at execution of AFBN? If yes, then it wont copy values to the new dep.area.

Hi Mukthar,

Yes, OAYZ has been activated for the asset class - this time 3000 and for other assets, AFBN was successful except for the errorneous ones.

The issue was that AFBN did not open a new depr area for some assets master data leaving others without it.

would you please help out with some expertise to resolve such an issue?

Regards
