Hi all gurus,
I am struggling with BW-BPS, in Variable, there is one field called Replacement Type and there is one value "Authorization". I read the help and it says:
"With this replacement type the system automatically determines those characteristic values for which the user logged onto the system has an authorization, and allows the user to make a selection from those values. The authorizations used here are the reporting authorizations from the BW system. This has the advantage that authorizations in reporting are automatically consistent with authorizations in planning, without any extra Customizing effort. "
Anyone has idea how to configure this to make it worked?
Thanks.
I was managed to make BW reporting authorization works.
I can see from tcode RSSM, Auth object will tie with InfoProvider, but for BPS, according to a BPS consultant here, BPS has no link with InfoProvider.
I am stucked here because of this. Also please correct me if i am wrong.

Miao,
BPS does have a link to the InfoProvider. The link is the planning area. So the authorizations that are defined for the planning area/InfoProvider will be returned into the variable.
There's one exception. If you create a variable on a multi planning area, then several InfoProvider (basis planning areas) are involved. Those InfoProviders could have different authorizations. BPS will use the authorizations for only one InfoProvider (the first one, which includes the characteristic you are dealing with).

Hi Marc,
Appreciated your reply.
Need more detail from you:
For BPS authorizations, under Planning Area (tcode BPS0), for variable, said we select "Company code" for "Characteristic", Text Replacement "Characteristic value" and Replacement Type "Authorization".
What other activities i need to do enable this to have the authorization check on "Company code"?
Awaits your reply.
Thanks in advance.

Miao,
the variable is not relevant for the authorization check at all. It is only used to get the authorized values so you can use them in BPS.
The authorizations are setup in BW:
1) Transaction RSD1, make characteristic "authorization relevant"
2) Transaction RSSM, create an auth.object for the characteristic(s), assign it to the InfoCube and turn on the check
For more information please check the online help for RSSM.

Miao,
Do you have the BW authorization on company code for that infocube/infoprovider? That is the list the variable returns, the BW authorized values for the person will be returned for the variable.
I have found that unless it is a large number of values and a lot of differences by user, such as it does for costcenter, it may be easier to use variables with user specific values... A little extra maintenance but makes things a little simpler at times.
