SAP connexion using alias

Dear SAP experts,

I've got a question regarding the usage of alias for SAP connexion.

Indeed we have seen that we can easily map a partner in SU01 with an alias.

However this alias is a CHAR40 format. The alias wanted might be more than 40CHAR.

Is there any standard possibility to use a longer alias to be mapped with SU01 user?

Dear Anais,

I searched relevant information regarding your question and I have to recommend, not to change the definition of the Data element. There is a lot of coding using that element (the domain) and we cannot give a valid information, if and what could be possible impacts of changing it.

However, I can also imagine as workaround is the e-mail address field. It is defined in domain AD_SMTPADR with lenght 241 (although user administration reports only verify the first 45 characters, but on DB the full lenght can be used).

We do not want to change data element of Alias

Indeed we could use the e-mail address field but this will not be used as an alias for CRM connexion. If we do that, we would have to do developpment , that we would prefer to avoid. Anyway, thanks a lot, will see what to do!
