Hi Sybase experts,

We are facing a particular situation: During the SAP installation and database creation, the datafile for main database not was properly configures for our business.

After two years the size of the database need to be increased and we have doubts about this. We would like to have your attention to help us with the best practice about the correct way to define datafiles to growing from now. (Considering a growing rate of 50Gb/month)

Nowadays the datafile has 351Gb, our DBMS is Sybase 15.7.0.132 running on SLES 11.3.

Which is the best way for us:

a - Keep increasing the actual Filesystem "/sybase/<SID>/sapdata_1", increase disk space "_data_001" and increase database on existing disk space.

b - Create a new disk space "_data_002" on the same Filesystem "/sybase/<SID>/sapdata_1" and increase database on existing disk space.

c - Create a new Filesystem "/sybase/<SID>/sapdata_2", create a new disk space "_data_002" and increase database on new disk space.

Thanks for any help.

HI,

I suggest when ever you expand data/log space create a new device within the same file system.

Although Sybase allows to create devices on multiple filesystem, but having devices on same file system will have better performance.

Thanks,

Varun.
