Hi,
We are running M33.112 & SAP ECC 6 .We have a requirement to run an ABAP Job in ECC and send the spool to a specific printer .
We tried with the job definition in CPS SAP_AbapRunPrint giving the printer name in the PRINT_PDEST but that does not work.
The error is "Frontend unavailable" .
In ECC the printer is defined with type S:Print with SAP Protocol.
Please advise how to achieve this .
Thank you
Balaji Natarajan
Hello,
we use this functionality and it's work without problem.
the output device in ECC is set with configuration :
- Host Spool Access Method : S (Printing using SAP Protocol)
- Host Printer : matches with the shared name of printer
- Destination Host : matches with the print server(or pc) name where the printer has been set
and in our chain definition, in step we use the shortname of printer .
note : printserver(or pc) must be active when spool is sent to print.
if error on spool is "device unavailable" it because it cannot be reach or the printserver or the sapsprint service is not running.
I hope this help.
kind regards,
Delphine

In the ECC printer definition, choose an access method that does not require a frontend PC or workstation. Printers accessed through the frontend are not available to background jobs.

Hi Balaji,
Could you please confirm if the printer is firstly pingable. Also please confirm if the connections between the CPS system and the ECC system are fine. Also confirm if the queue is in released state in CPS system and the server is in up status in the CPS system . Please confirm on these.
Regards
Bharadwaj
