SAP GDS Console: Install on dedicated Java stack or on PI stack.

Will be installing GDS 2.1 sp 4 when it comes out.

Looking for best practices or recommendations regarding if GDS Console should be installed on a dedicated Web AS Java stack or it can or should be installed on the Web AS Java for PI.

The GDS Install Guide says GDS needs to be installed on NW CE.

However, as of NW 7.3, CE is fully integrated into NW 7.3.

PI 7.4 (Web AS Java) already exists in our environment, so CE would be integrated in it.  The guide is not clear regarding the need or recommendation for installing GDS Console on its own dedicated Web AS Java vs. just leveraging a PI Web AS Java.

Note that PI is required as part of the GDS landscape anyway.

Any thoughts or feedback around this would be appreciated.

I believe as per your existing set up you have to install the GDS console with portal mode as distributed model and it should have the dedicated web AS Java stack.

Great feedback, thanks.  it turns out that GDS is be installed on a dedicated NW 7.4 Web AS Java stack since as of NW 7.3 the SAP CE (Composite) is full imbedded in NetWeaver.  Verified this with OSS, they said the Master Guide was out of date and they would update it.

One other question I had, the install Guide mentions to install the PI J2EE Adapter Engine component on the GDS server.  it's a little unclear though as to if this is component is a new NW install in addition to the GDS NW install (in parallel with it), or if in someway it gets deployed on top of the GDS NW.

Note that this is specific to the GDS server.  The PI server (separate) has its own J2EE Adapter Engine.  The J2EE adapter engine in question here is specific to GDS.

Any feedback appreciated!

GDS has its own J2ee server with PI adapter components will deployed on top of NW.. Your PI server will talk to GDS server via J2EE AE. [XI Proxy]

Refer the Architecture diagram will give you some better idea. Let me know if you need any more information.

ok, thanks.  It makes sense that the PI J2EE Adapter Engine component would be installed on top of the GDS NW, and would not be a new NW install.
