What is next for ABAP?

Hello All Experts,

I have serious question regarding the careers in ABAP.

It has been a 3 yrs journey with ABAP for now, can you please guide me on
what next step can be taken towards building a strong career. I also have few
questions regarding the same below:

As an ABAPer what is next for him with reference to HANA?

How an ABAP developer can fit himself into this HANA world? Whats there for
him in HANA such that his ABAP experience is not wasted?

Is doing a SAP HANA course along with certification is good for strong
career growth?

In short what next big step can an ABAPer take now with 3 yrs of ABAP
experience to improve his career?

Kindly provide your valuable inputs on the same.

I would like to mention the same discussion in the below spaces:

Thanks and Regards,

Satish

Hi Satish Kumar,

There is an good future for HANA & Fiori Applications developments. Learn the below things in HANA it will make your carrier stornger ( Settled ).

     1. HANA Administration ( Little bit for Developer )

     2. HANA Developer Guide ( Much Stornger )

     3. HANA Security & SQL Reference ( if you are interested. )

For Fiori applications once you start working, you will learn step by steps.

Two choices , either SAP HANA modeling and implementation or ABAP for HANA.

You can choose from any of these.

Dear Satish,

If you see at the client/customer prospective

ABAP consultants updating with HANA will be added advantage

I insist ABAP guys should explore capabilities of SAP BI. most of future implementation / support projects will be shifting on HANA some time, so there will be good opportunities as well.

The combination of ABAP, BI and HANA are highly in demanded specially at client place.

All the very best.

...and is the existing ABAP-coding compatibly to HANA?

Dear Peter Wiech,

We all know that most of SAP code is written in ABAP, with HANA only approach of accessing the DATABASE changes to leverage the rich features of HANA.

to explore more refer to ABAP Development for SAP HANA - Dr. Jasmin Gruschke and Jens Weiler

Hi ,

Being an ABAPER sometimes i also ask the same question to myself that what will be next. But after seing this vast world i am sure that the related technologies always plays a path for Developers.

As you are asking about HANA , as far as i concern and i know  about HANA it will be implemented

in all those industry where there are a lots of transactions going on on a daily basis.

As you know that COLGATE has implemented HANA first time and they have provided their server for its tesing on HANA, when i saw first time Vishal Sikka's video for implementing HANA, that time i realise that HANA will play a great role ahead.

As i don't have more idea on HANA , i will suggest you to do a deep search on HANA, then you must move as new technologies always becomes more fruitful to you.

Regards
