Hi,
We are just in the process of testing our ByDesign setup and need some input on the setup of one of our BOM's.
We purchase a raw material from a three different suppliers. Two of these suppliers supply the exact same specification of the raw material whereas the third sends us a slightly different spec. These raw materials are used to manufacture an entry level component that is used in the manufacture of assemblies further up the chain.
So RM1 and RM2 are our raw materials. RM1 is used in the manufacture of Component1 and RM2 is used in the manufacture of Component 2, Component1 or Component2 can be used in Assembly1, but only Component2 can be used in Assembly2.
So Assembly2 isn't an issue - this BOM will just call for Component2 as one of the inputs. But Assembly1 can use either Component1 or Component2 as an input so how can this be catered for on the BOM? It should use whichever one is in stock, so can these be configured as alternatives on the BOM or what would be the suggestion to handle this?
Many thanks in advance,
Ger
Dear Ger Kennedy,
Below is the summary of your query.
So RM1 and RM2 are our raw materials.
RM1 is used in the manufacture of Component1 and RM2 is used in the manufacture of Component 2,
Component1 or Component2 can be used in Assembly1
Create a BOM
variant 1 with input as RM1 and output Assembly 1
variant 2 with input as RM2 and output Assembly 2
Create two production model
Assembly_1 (using variant 1)
Assembly_2 (using variant 2)
Go to Planning and Production Master Data -------------> Source Determination, (maintain the priority of the model as per your requirement)
Whenever you run manual planning proposal or MRP, system will assign automatic or you can also choose between different source of supply

Hi Ruben,
it is a true priority and things like allocation or quota cannot be applied automatically. Demand affects the variants by the validity (time and lot size) of the respective production model, meaning you can e.g. use production model 1 for a smaller lot size and production model 2 for bigger lot sizes.
Best regards,
Stefan
Hello All,
Many thanks for the suggestions above. The variant option will work well for us.

Hi Ger,
You can handle this via creating multiple BOMs & if you need to change the BOM you can change as :
Supply Control WoC --> Production Proposal --> Edit --> Change Source Of Supply --> Select your BOM here.
