Dear Expert,
Could you please share your experience to return excess material issued through PM work Orders. Please see the scenario below :
What are the advantages and disadvantages using the first scenario. We opted the second scenario but you would like to have your expert advice.
Regards,
Kavvya
Hello Kavya,
You can do either way.
Hope these things answer your query suitably.

Greetings Kavya, Jogeswara,
Weighing these options comes down to whether your Maintenance Planners and Cost Controllers want and accept a reduction in the Planned cost of the Work Order.
Note that if you should plan an item with a negative value, the Planned Order Cost will be reduced and when you then process that item of the Reservation to post the material back into stock, the Actual Cost is reduced. So your Planned Costs will be adjusted to match the Actual Costs for the materials.
However, if you simply post back to stock using MIGO or MB1A, then only Actual Costs are affected and you will see an underspend.
Also, consider the responsibilities - if the Work Order processor makes the negative item and the stores person posts the material back into stock, both are aware that the item was returned. But if only the material posting is made, then only the person doing the posting knows. So, consider your business process in the warehouse - how do the people actually do this "on the ground".
Unfortunately, you can't do an unplanned goods return when you do an Order Confirmation...
