SMP3.0 - Relay Server 12 Configuration

Hi,

I'm trying to find a way to configure the SAP Relay Server version 12 to access SMP3.0 Server.

The current system architecture has the SAP Relay Server version 12 as the reverse proxy used to access SUP2.2 MBO's.

I understand that the official supported SAP Relay Server version is version 16 but an upgrade from versions 12 to 16 implies service down time which has a significant impact on the business workflow.

So, the objective is to use the current SAP Relay Server 12 without upgrade.

Since I can't find anything that explains how to configure the SAP Relay Server 12 to access SMP3.0 Server, I decided to ask you scn community.

Regards,

Vicente

Hello Vicente,
as mentioned the Relay Server supported with SMP server runtime 3.0 higher then SP06 would be 16.5.x.
Please take a look at SAP Note 1904213 http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1904213
(You can also access this Note via PAM http://service.sap.com/pam)

The RS architecture has changed completely(based on SQLA 17) so there is no compatibility with older versions.
If you are still running an older environment (SUP 2.2) you need to use the old version of RS.
If you want to upgrade your SUP 2.2 environment to SMP 3.0 MBO RUNTIME (which is similar to SMP 2.3) then you need to use the "old" Relay Server 16.x (Don't mix up with 16.5.x) which means at that point you could just do a simple upgrade of the existing RS 12 to RS 16.

A "quick" update process from RS 12 to RS 16.x you can find here:
http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/SAPMOB/Relay+Server+upgrade+from+version+12.x+to+16.x+for+Afari...

Although this is for Afaria the process in general is the same, you just need to use the RS package from the SMP 3.0 MBO runtime server top update.

If you need a new RS 16.5.x you need to do a new installation from scratch accordingly to
http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-65929

Maybe you can elaborate more about your environment and if you want to upgrade your SUP 2.2 to 3.0 MBO runtime or to SMP 2.3.x?

Thanks and kind regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Thank you for your reply.

I will try to enlighten you of which are our upgrade process details.

The current environment is based on SUP2.2 using MBO with the Sybase Relay Server 12 to be accessed by a Windows Mobile (old) application -> MBO-Based App.

The objective is to upgrade from SUP2.2 MBO to SMP3.0 OData and our main our doubt is related to RS server version compatibility with SMP3.0.

Currently we're developing an Android App using SMP3.0 SDK to connect with SMP3.0 in order to consume the OData services.

From your response, I think there's no alternative but to upgrade the RS version or to use another reverse proxy.

We've been considering the Apache 2.4 option in order to keep both reverse proxy servers available.

Look forward for your comments.

Vicente

Hi Vicente,

in case you are moving an MBO based app to an OData app on SMP 3.0 you would need  to use the SMP 3.0 server runtime because the SMP 3.0 MBO runtime don't support OData.
As a consequence you CAN'T use the old RS anymore so you would need to setup a new RS 16.5.x for the new OData app or you use a Reverse Proxy like the Apache.

Kind regards,
Andreas
