Hello,
Our users are updating their MD&A discussion to include charts and graphs. The charts and graphs are linked to the Excel source file, rather than being a static image, to allow for ease of updates during the report preparation. The charts look great in the Word version of the report, but when converted to HTML for EDGAR filing, the images are fuzzy and pixelated. By manually changing the images from *.gif (the default created by DM) to *.jpg, the images are improved, but there is some distortion still present.
Has anyone converted charts into images for EDGAR, using the functionality within DM, and found success creating clear images?
Thank you,
Beth
Hi Beth,
Not sure how many customers use images in the Edgar, but this may be an easy workaround
The Edgar file that DM produces is a .zip and within it the image files are present (image1.gif etc.)
The html file will refer to these like this:
<img src="image1.gif" width="607" height="2" alt="" style="margin-top:6.85pt; margin-left:0.75pt; position:absolute; z-index:0" ></p>
Have you tried simply converting the original .jpg to .gif (in some editing tool which does not affect resolution) and the replacing the files in the zip with these converted files (using the same name, so the html does not need to be changed).
Thanks
Marc

Hi Marc,
Thanks for the suggestion. We have tried doing what you suggested in the opposite order. The EDGARizing tool converts the charts to *.gif images. We have done a manual find and replace to replace all of the images with *.jpg. The *.jpg images are clearer, but it's a manual process that increases the risk in our conversion since we're editing the HTML.
Is there any setting that would allow us to control the resolution to which the charts are converted?
Thanks,
Beth
Hi Elizabeth,
AsEDGAR allows only these two picture formats (gif and jpeg), we are limited in the conversion.
None of the custmers, who are using the "edgarizing" feature, has reported lower quality of the pictures. I can confirm that they are with reduces sharpness, but it was never reported as an incident.
There are also no setting which you can adjust. The only option is, as Marc mentioned, to manually correct the EDGARized HTML file.
Regards,
Hristo
