how to connect mysql from portal?

And my question is if we connect MySQL from portal or not.if it is possible what is solution and what are the properties i need to enter. which system object is required .And previously there is a visual administrator but 7.4 on wards we don't then what is solution for install jdbc driver in portal .and there is a user mapping for system object in that which user id and password i need to enter....
