We are new to dashboards and have just completed building one on our TEST server. We are now ready to move to production, but have run into an issue where the production dashboard is still seeing the TEST database because we cannot change the connection of the Queries we built.
We are on BI 4.0 SP10
Here is the process we followed.
We created a new universe using a connection to our TEST database and published it to our TEST server.
We created a dashboard and based all the queries on that universe and published the dashboard to our test server
Dashboard works fine. So we want to move it all to our PROD server
We went into the universe that we built and simply changed the connection from our TEST database to our PROD database. Then we published it to our PROD server
We could not find how to change the dashboard queries to use this PROD universe.
So, we went ahead and published the dashboard to our production server.
When we run it, as expected, we got back TEST data because we can't tell the queries to use the PROD universe.
The universe is identical on both systems, all that is different is the underlying connection string.
How do we change the dashboard to use the universe that has the connection for our production database?
Using promotion management you can move the dashboard to the production server, but still you need to change the connections pointing to the test server.
What is your connection type ? Are you using query browser ?
If so i will tell you a method.
1. Move the connection first and change the connections server according to the environment.
QA (or) PRD.
2. Now open the test dashboard what you have developed and save it in the desktop and close it. Now open the same dashboard again and while connecting to the server point to the QA or PRD server and save them into the repository. Hope you got clarified.

Hi Vicki,
Here's what you need to do:
Move the dashboard along with the dependencies (which includes universe, connections, query metadata, etc.) from the Test environment to the Production environment using promotion management tool.
Once the promotion job runs successfully and you have all the dashboards and its dependants migrated to the Production environment, simply open Information Design tool (IDT) and edit the connection to make it point to the Production DB server. You can do this by: Opening IDT >> Insert session >> Expand Connections >> Double-click on the required connection >> Click on Edit >> Specify the appropriate database details.

Hope this helps.
