Hi All,

In our production system for one of our App server  response time  differs in SMLG and ST03.

can any one help me out to know how the SMLG will calculate Response time .I referred few SCN links and came to know that SMLG will read directly

from RZ20 (CCMS) node.Please suggest

Hello Satish,

please take a look at the following SAP note:

http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1624449

This note contains some examples from STAD, ST03N and response time MTEs in RZ20 in the attachement, please check it too.

Hi Satish,

Go through below para, that explains why the difference.

The response times in ST03 and RZ20 are determined from what is referred to as statistical records. The transactions are based on different evaluating algorithms which results in different values.

Transaction ST03 forms the arithmetic mean of the values over a certain time period.

Transaction SMLG/RZ20 determines the values in the what is referred to as "SLIDING window". First the transaction determines the mean response times over one minute, and then calculates the average response time from 15 such mean values.

The different calculation procedures can have the effect that the values in SMLG/RZ20 are smaller than in ST03. We want to illustrate this with the following (extreme) example:

The database "hangs" over a period of 4 minutes (example archiver stuck). In these 4 minutes, only transactions are terminated which exclusively access buffers and therefore have good response times.

In minute 5 the database problem is solved. The transactions which had hung previously are completed with very poor response times (more than 4min).

Due to the procedure the response times are much better in SMLG/RZ20 than in ST03.

Hope this clears your doubt.

Prithviraj.

Hi Prithvi,

Thanks for the reply.

I checked for the response time in SMLG and ST03 but its opposite to what you explained.

SMLG/RZ20 response is very high when compared to ST03.

Hi Satish,

The above snippet was from a SAP note.

Also, SMLG will show the response time for that moment while ST03 is based on average.

Lets see what other have to say over this.

Prithviraj.
