Hello,
We are designing an architecture that will be based on NetWeaver 7.5 with ME 15.1.
It is communicated that NetWeaver 7.5 supports Java 8. This is great news.
But what is the JEE support in NetWeaver 7.5?
Is this JEE5 as in the previous versions, or is this upgraded to JEE7?
Thanks for the answer,
Jan Labrie
Hi Jan,
The Java EE support in NetWeaver 7.5 has not changed. The platform supports Java EE 5.
The recently released SAP HANA SPS 11 has support for Java EE 6, provided by the open source Apache TomEE. But ME could not be used on this runtime.
Best regards,
Nikolay

Thanks for the answers.
I think that the ultimate answer should be found on the official JEE Compatibility pages.
The certified list does not show NetWeaver.
NetWeaver 7.1 can be found on the JEE5 compatibility list: Java EE 5 Compatibility
Does anybody know whether JEE7 support is on the NetWeaver roadmap?
Regards,
Jan Labrie
Hi Jan,
Currently there are no plans to provide support for Java EE 7 in SAP NetWeaver AS Java. A good read on this topic is the Karl Kessler article in SAP Insider for the 7.5 release. There is also a lengthy discussion in
Although a full support for Java EE 7 is not planned, we are currently working on a feature that will allow you to plugin a third-party or open source implementation of JPA (like EclipseLink). Although this was possible in the past, it was not possible to use the new JPA 2.0 features.
Best regards,
Nikolay
Hi All,
there is a very useful OSS Note on this subject
2250903 - Supported JVM versions for versions of NetWeaver Java
Jan and all, please, in future avoid cross posting subjects.

Hello Jan,
AFAIK, JEE version has not changed in NetWeaver 7.5.
Best regards,
Markus
