How do I generated new version of SDS report automatically when there is change in WWI main template or its version in Report Generation Variant. Please note that I have first level investigation and analysis as mentioned below: 1. RC1AVGE1 & RC1AVGE2 programs do not support automatic SDS report generation when there is a change in Report Generation Variant. This has been confirmed by SAP support as well. 2. There is no change log or change documentation available for generation variant (table ESTLP). Hence there is no possibility to track changes in ESTLP. I cannot find a place to activate the change document for ESTLP in IMG customizing. Kindly advise how can this be made possible? I have an idea to clone the ESTLP and create a Z-table and this z-table would record all the updates happen to ESTLP. Using the changes, it is possible to track the Template and Version changes. A custom program can be developed to create SDS reports for all those specifications linked to Report Generation Variant from ESTDH table. Let me know if the above solution has any direct or indirect consequences to the system. Many thanks for your recommendation in advance!
Hello
for both cases:
a.) there is change in WWI main template
b.) it's version in Report Generation Variant
nothing is delivered in SAP standard which is useful. In most cases both types of changes are handled not using some "automatic" mechanism but by user interaction. The main reason is: in most cases the status used in the generation variant is "ready". Therefore: even if there would be a SAP framework existing still some user interaction is needed to get the status switch "Ready" to "Released".
As "ESTLP" is part of some SAP standard mechanism: the only topic which might work: check if there is the otion to use th "Enhancement Fraemwork" of SAP in the corresponding transaction (to generate generation variant); then you might be able to generate a "log" and based on the log you could try to start subsequent actions
But as mentioned. Normally it is not done like that.

Hi C.B,
Thanks for your quick feedback. Yes, I agree there is no standard SAP framework available for this.
The requirement arises when we move towards newer SDS template as part of SERC template update or any addition/deletion to WWI code specific to client needs.
Change in WWI template code has been traced by RC1AVGE1 program (via batch job) as a potential report for generation and the report is automatically created by a subsequent batch job RC1AVGE2 program. So, we do not have issue if there.
However, if there is a newer template assigned to already released Report Generation Variant MSDS_xx specific to countries as validity area, then we would have to manually create SDS reports for all those specifications which have already generated SDS reports with older template (reference for manually report creation is taken from ESTDH). The volume of SDS report creation manually is a huge task considering each specification with multiple generation variants and multiple languages.
My idea is to do this activity via a background job. As you mentioned I would investigate if there is any enhancement framework available for ESTLP to generate a change log.
Further input or idea on this scenario is appreciated.
Thanks & Regards,
Sudharsan
Hello
as mentioned: you need to find a solution on your own. The design should be donebased on experience using RC1AVGE1 & RC1AVGE2 process.
As mentioned. Normally a "manual"process is used. So if there is a change in template or a change in generation variant an analysis is done in ESTDH. Based on that "simply" the user create a hit list and just click "create report". Using this approach you can generate in one run per list of specification corresponding reports having combination of genvariant + language. This is part of a "MOC" process (Management of Change).
There are some reason why you should pay attention in having completly automated process:
a.) depending on the effected reports the system have to do a "huge work" (regenerating a lot of reports); this can in many cases not done in one run but you need to "bundle" (because you need any WWI server you will get); this kind of action is only done one "weekend" and at a time there "less" usage of the system is expected.
In theory. if you would like to do it "perfect": then you could enhance the process so that for the regeneration of th reports only dedicated WWI servers are used any any other is still free for "normal" work; but this is the "final" solution and clealry depends on the number of WWI servers you have.
On the top: you might have issues with "change marks" in the report; And as mentioned: if the system detects now: 1000 reports need to be generated and this would be done automatic still there is the need to check the content of the reports and to "rerelease" them by a user... and here you have in many cases a "bottleneck", Clearly: you can enhance your process and the "system" can do as well the release but then nobody has any kind of control of the content of the report
Especially: if, because of change of WWI template; first somebody need to maintain additional data this "automatic" process is not "stable".
