Requirement from EHP4 Oracle 11.2.0.2 to EHP8

Hi,

We are looking into planning to upgrade from our current ERP 6.0 (ECC 6) EHP4, running on Oracle 11.2.0.2 with HP-UX 11.31, Kernel 7.21 to EHP8.

There seems to be little information available from SAP EHP8 even it's already release. We tried to access some of the site however getting acccess denied messages.

Questions

1) What is the minimum database version that EHP8 will support? We are running on 11.2.0.2 64bit. Do we need to upgrade to oracle 12 64bit first?

2) What is the minimum kernel level that we need to upgrade too? We are running on 7.21 unicode.

3) What are the minimum system EHP4 support stack required? We are on SPS22.

4) We are running minimum requirement, we are running on Solution Manager 7.1 with SAP_BASIS 702 SP14.

5) Any other minimum to meet before we can upgrade to EHP8?

6) We tried to calculate on our Maintenance Optimizer, the highest we could we is "SAP enhancement package for SAP ERP (5) - Installation of change of a release and implementation of Support Packages". We could not see anything even EHP7 or EHP8? Any idea ?

Hi Steven,

Firstly, please use the recently released note 2171334 for all your EHP8 queries.

1. PAM can be used for all the OS and DB related requirements for your target system. Just select the release EHP8 and you shall see all OS/DB requirements.

2. You don't need to seperately upgrade the kernel release beforehand. You only need the latest patch for your current release - 7.21. The target Kernel (7.45) will be downloaded with the stack and will be installed by SUM itself during the upgrade process.

3. EHP4 SPS17 is sufficient as this stack is equivalent to EHP8 SPS01. All dependencies will be analyzed in stack. This is also given in the note 2171334 I mentioned earlier.

4, 5 --- Note 2171334 should cover all.

6. EHP8 is based on NW 7.5, so you will need to use Maintenance Planner for your upgrade as MOPZ can't be used. Please see note 2263653 for this.

Warm Regards,

Thank you for your information.

1) It seems like we cannot directly upgrade from EHP4 to EHP8 on ecc 6.0.

2171334 mentioned that currently only EHP7 can be directly upgrade to EHP8.

Important restrictions:

  • Upgrade: We currently only provide a direct ('one step') upgrade path from EHP7 for SAP ERP 6.0 to EHP8 for SAP ERP 6.0.
  • Installation: An installation package for EHP8 for SAP ERP 6.0 will be provided later. The installation option is currently not released.

2) We tried to use MOPZ on our current version SM 7.1 with SAP_BASIS 702 SP14 to calculate if we can see EHP7. However we can only see up to EHP5? Anything that is missing?

3) Now with the Maintenance Planner, it make it more completed. It add another layer complexity. Too many tools, too many dependency, too complicated to just perform upgarde.

Hi Steven,

1. Correct. Currently restricted from EHP7 but soon you shall see the Direct installation package for EHP8 and more upgrade paths being made available with more latest SUM PL which will enable you to move to EHP8/NW7.5 directly. Notes shall alse be updated with the changes.

2. This is strange. Solman 7.1 SPS5 or higher is the only requirement for you to see EHP7.

Could you please check your LMDB/SLD for correct technical information of the system you want to upgrade with correct product version and components?. Try to resync the technical system from SLD again. Also, please provide screenshots so that we can take a gander and advice what could be wrong.

3. Maintenance Planner should be a breeze of fresh air for all. It has many advantages and simplifications that you will see when you get to using it. There are zero preperatory steps. Its a hosted solution provided by SAP directly. You only need S-User to access and launch it directly on portal. It brings a host of simplifications and improvements along with new UI experience. It combines all tools -- Upgrade dependency analyzer, Product system editor, MOPZ under one umbrella.

Just launch it from the link in here and see for yourself ---- Your systems may already be there depending on whether they are being updated to the Support portal for EWA etc.

We can't upgrade from EHP4 to EHP8 at the moment. The only level is EHP7.

Thanks. We are able to see EHP7 after click on the next continue button. It only show on the next screen.

However we have issue whereby by the data we upload from LMDB to SAP Support Portal does not reflect the new data. It is still showing the old data in the Maintenance Planner.

If we go to the support portal, for our PRD system we see line like below.

The one with support package level is in red color. We others are black. So confusing.

Hi Steven

If you didn't start the upgrade , the update of note 2171334 says:

  • NEW: We provide a direct ('one step') upgrade path from SAP ERP 6.0 and SAP ERP 6.0 including SAP enhancement package 2–7 to SAP ERP EHP8. An installation package of SAP ERP EHP8 is also available.

I'm approaching for an upgrade to ehp8 from ehp4 and i didn't understand why you said was not possible. 😉

Bye

Nick
