Hello all ByD experts
Let say our business is engineering to order business, which make special designed vehicle as customer requirement. hence our business process will roughly look like this Getting an order ==> Design and develop prototype ==> make parts ==>Assembly ==> QC ==> deliver. This process will take several months. So we want to use project management to capture cost and control production processes
Can we use project management to manage all phases and collect cost?
Can we derive production order from project?
Hi,
You can create a new project and tasks and phases in it.
You can assign material/product to any of the task, select check box 'To stock'.
Then you can create project stock order from project, while creation of order, system will ask you to enter ship from location (Production plant).
Once you release the order, it will come in production, as customer demand, after MRP it will get converted to production order, then you can follow regular production process.
Once your product is ready, you can assign it to project, where once it gets consumed, its cost will appear on project.

Dear Mr. book, Mr. Lonkar,
@ Mr. Lonkar, this is good thought out process however there is small complexity which is lets assume the customer wants to return the product for any reason via customer return.
Since the product is consumed, we don't have an option to undo consumption to return the product to enable a credit memo invoice request.
We cannot proceed with return without reference in this case as have already billed your customer for consumption.

Dear Mr. Book,
We don't have direct scenario linking production with project.
However for Design and develop prototype ==> make parts ==>Assembly ==> QC you can use "Product development + production" + order with delivery you can use sales order process
Or
For design and development prototype you can use project , for make parts ==>Assembly ==> QC you can use Production process and for order and delivery you can use sales order process.
May be you can approach a partner to link with an add-on as per your requirement.

Leo
