Impact of upgrade from CRM 5.0 to Crm 7. 0 on IPC

Hi,

After upgrade of CRM 5.0 to CRM 7.0 Ehp2, what happens to IPC related setting? are there any manual settings required after upgrade for pricing/condition master data replication form ECC to CRM? What is the impact of upgrade on IPC pricing?

As per the upgrade guide "the Internet Pricing and Configurator (IPC) functions for pricing has been integrated in the Virtual Machine Container (VMC) of SAP NetWeaver 7.0. It is not required to install SAP NetWeaver Application Server Java to run the Java applications for pricing, since these are now processed on SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP only".

Nikhil

Hello Nikhil,

if you only use IPC for pricing, then there is nothing to worry about. The CRM 5.0 already runs on NetWeaver 7.0 and hosting IPC in VMC of the ABAP stack (check transactions SM52 and SM53).

Only CRM until and including CRM 4.0 (NetWeaver 6.20) had to host IPC on a separate server(s) and you had to replicate customizing etc.

Hi Dawood,

What if it is used for product configuration as well? Web channel is in scope which is using product catelogue.

Hi Nikhil,

in case you use IPC based product configuration (e.g. utilities can use BRF+ based configuration), then you will still need also J2EE stack to host the configuration UI, though in some view you can see atributes in CRM BSP view.

The good new though is that the PME (Product Modeling Engine) is no more an external .NET based tool but it is embedded in CRM UI.

The J2EE UI only provides screens for cofiguration but does not run the actual IPC application, nor holds any data.

Hi Dawood,

Does that mean after upgrade no new config is require to be done in CRM 7.0 Ehp2? All IPC related functionalities will be accommodated on their own and will start working as expected with little changes if required?

Hi Nikhil,

basically yes, there is little you have to do after upgrade. You may have to review the XCM based url settings, maybe reset passwords in J2EE Java Connector (Config UI uses this connection to read customizing and other data from CRM in real-time).

You may also encounter problems with IE and server security, because the UI is rendered by different server (J2EE) than rest of the screen (CRM ABAP stack).

In CRM 5.0,m if you have used SAPgui access, there was no problem, because the J2EE screens were embedded in SAPgui.

Check, for instance, OSS note 974260 - "Permission denied" on "Done" or "Back" in Configuration UI .

Just one note more - I would go for CRM Ehp4, which was recently released, or EhP3, if you want to be on a safe side.

Regards,

Dawood.
