Stuck in SUM phase READDATA_EXP (EHP8)

Former Member

Hi there,

I would like to update a EHP6 System (Linux SLES 11 with Oracle 12) to EHP8. So i created an upgrade stack with the Maintenance Planner. I downloaded all files and started SUM. But i cant get past the phase PREP_INPUT_CHECK/READDATA_EXP. SUM wants me to enter the mount points

of the kit "BS2016_SP01_MID"

I downloaded the following files:

51050610_7 SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export I 1/3

51050610_8 SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export I 2/3

51050610_9 SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export I 3/3

51050610_10 SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export II 1/3

51050610_11 SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export II 2/3

51050610_12 SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export II 3/3

51050610_13 SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export III 1/2

51050610_14 SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export III 2/2

51050610_15 SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export IV

I extracted all of them, but no chance. SUM does not recognize them at all. Although there are no useful entries in the logs (SUM/abap/log). I also downloaded the kernel 7.45, which SUM recognized in phase PREP_INPUT_CHECK/EXTRACTKRN_PRE.

Does anybody know what to do to get further?

Thanks in advance

Greetings Stefan

Hi Stefan,

It is asking for ERP DVD for a Netweaver system.
I am not sure if it will work unless some special handling in SUM.

Could you please map your system as Netweaver + SEM-BW (add-on) and generate a new stack.xml file.

Thank you.

Gaurav

Hi Stefan,

Gaurav is right. On top of the screen we see "BS2016_SP01_MID", but on the bottom it is asking for "Export DVD for product NW".

Would you please attach the stackfile to this thread?

Many thanks,
Andreas

Hi there,

i have attached the txt stack file. Hmm how is that possible to map the system as NW + SEM-BW Addon? It will be always supplied as an ERP System if i register it from transaction RZ70 to the Solman. So i have to edit the data in the system landscape directory?

Thanks and Greetings

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

we can see that you really have a Netweaver system including ERP components:

[INITIAL_CVERS]

BI_CONT                       747       0014

FINBASIS                      736       0016

MDG_FND                       731       0016

PI_BASIS                      731       0017

SAP_ABA                       731       0017

SAP_BASIS                     731       0017

SAP_BS_FND                    731       0016

SAP_BW                        731       0017

SEM-BW                        736       0016

ST-A/PI                       01S_731   0000

ST-PI                         2008_1_7000012

WEBCUIF                       731       0016

Please check scenario b) of the solution part of note #1927083 (SAP-NetWeaver-Systeme mit SEM-BW). This note links to the document here: Special Cases in Installation and Update | SCN

Please check the chapters which are mentioned in that note, use CISI or change the system in LMDB and generate the stackfile again.

Andreas

I have the exact same problem as Stefan and I've already downloaded all the DVDs and extracted/combined as per SAP Note, but the problem is still the same.

For the CISI, I couldn't even proceed with the SUM portion because SUM tool keeps on asking for a START profile which no longer exists in newer SAP systems.

Hi Engreso,

I guess you have Windows OS. If yes, please create a incident with SAP for CISI issue.
Not sure about the other issue you mentioned as there is not much information and screenshot.

Hi Gaurav,

Yes it's WIndows OS and I've opened an incident but of course it takes time for global support to respond.

This seems to be a known issue with Windows OS. How come no SNOTES are released?

For the CISI Issue, please  check the next thread http://scn.sap.com/thread/3889283  since apparently I'm not the one who's encountering it. We can no longer download older SUM versions because it's no longer available in the MarketPlace.

Hi Gaurav,

The incident I opened is related to CISI issue but it involves SUM tool too and we really need this fixed in preparation for BW 7.5 Upgrade

Incident number is 105516 / 2016

To Summarize the current problems:

1. We are stuck in phase READDATA_EXP for EHP8 Upgrades of SAP BW with SEM, because SUM tool keeps on asking BS2016_MID export media

2. SAP proposes to apply CISI for Netweaver with ERP Components and generate stack XML again. CISI is applied via SUM tool also,

3. SUM cannot apply CISI since it keeps on asking for instance/default profiles.

My colleague is working already on it. Please focus on CISI issue.
Other issue is not valid after you have performed the CISI.

Hi,

thanks to all of you. The issue is now resolved. The problem was indeed a wrong definition in LMDB of the involved system.

We have a system with Netweaver 7.31 and an addon named "SAP SEM". I changed it to "SEM" only in LMDB and then the system was recognized correctly in the maintenance planner as a Netweaver system instead of an ERP system.

So now SUM is asking for the NW 750 Kit.

Greetings

Stefan

Hello.

For problem 1) BS2016_MID I had to do following:

- Use latest SUM.

- Extract all export packages to own folders. 4 folders created.

- Extract correct kernel media to own folder.

- Add these 5 folder locations to SUM where it is asking for medias.

Have you tried with latest SUM and adding also path to SAP Kernel media?

Hi Jani,

Thank you for your response. I have tried that as well but it only detected the kernel but not the upgrade export DVD, even if SUM can see the label as BS2016_MID.

I used the latest SUM tool which was made available in the MarketPlace last April 29th.

Hi Engreso,

you have the same problem as Stefan (author of this thread).
Please check your system definition. You have probably a Netweaver system containing ERP components and your configuration in LMDB is wrong.

Please act as Stefan and perform CISI or reconfigure your systems in LMDB. Please check note 1927083 for more information.

Andreas

HI,

I have the same issue with source NW7.31 and target NW7.5.

LMDB is configured as

SAP ERP6.0                                     SAP SEM automatic

EHP6 For SAP ERP6.0 (add-on)     SAP SEM automatic

EHP7 For SAP ERP6.0 (add-on)     SAP SEM Standalone automatic

I know some entries are not right. What you have as right one?

Thanks a lot,

Shelley

Hi Stefan,

We're upgrading  SAP E-Recruiting (standalone) to EHP8 and unfortunately running into the same issue at the SUM phase READDATA_EXP too.  The source version is as below:

SAP_BASIS7400007
SAP_ABA7400007
SAP_GWFND7400008
SAP_UI7400009
PI_BASIS7400007
ST-PI7400002
SAP_BW7400007
MDG_FND7470005
SAP_BS_FND7470005
WEBCUIF7470005
ERECRUIT6170005
ST-A/PI01R_7310002

While we tried to follow the same approach of SEM-BW from the SAP guide Special Cases in Installation and Update | SCN,it didn't work because I guess SAP hasn't created additional product versions for ERECRUITING like SEM-BW in the SAP software catalog.  So we can't simply get rid of the SAP ERP 6.0 in LMDB.  Otherwise it causes the verification error in the maintenance planner util it's added back.  By all means we're stuck and SAP Support can't help too much either.  I wonder if someone has experienced the situation and could share any workaround or solution.

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Stefan,

there should be a folder called "/<SUM_DIRECTORY>/sdt/log". In this folder the MIDService.log should be present. Would you please attach it?

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

there is no log directory in /SUM/sdt. I also searched for that file. It is not present.

We are using the newest SUM (SUM10SP16_8-20006543)

Hi Stefan,

please check below page:

READDATA_EXP phase - Software Logistics - SCN Wiki

Additional to the Upgrade Export DVDs the kernel has to be added. Would you please perform this action and continue?

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

i already checked that link. It is actually the same you mentioned.

Further the kernel was successfully recognized in phase PREP_INPUT_CHECK/EXTRACTKRN_PRE. That was one step before.

It does not matter if i provide the path to the kernel again. Still the same situation.

HI Stefan,

please download all parts of each DVD and merge them together according to note #1258173. Please do not add them one by one.

Though please have a look should at the path length. It must not exceed 30 characters (!!!).

If this is not helpful then please add SAPupConsole.log, CDTRACE.trc and MIDservice.log to this thread.

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

i downloaded all files and i tried it by merging them together and by selecting them seperately. It did not work. I also put all files into a share with less than 10 characters. Same Problem.

We have here an BW Netweaver 7.31 with an ERP Component. (SEM BW). So this system is defined as an ERP System in our SLD. Our customer needs the latest version for this component. So we have to include SEM BW in our stack file.

Here are the last two entries of SAPupConsole.log

Hi Stefan,

when I see the paths of the CDTRACE then they are to long. Please proceed as below:

1. Download the below files.

51050610_7   SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export I 1/3
51050610_8   SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export I 2/3
51050610_9   SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export I 3/3

51050610_10   SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export II 1/3
51050610_11   SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export II 2/3
51050610_12   SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export II 3/3

51050610_13   SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export III 1/2
51050610_14   SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export III 2/2

51050610_15   SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 Upgrade Export IV

2. After download, you need to merge them according to SAP Note 886535.

Extract 51050610_7, 51050610_8 and 51050610_9 to directory EXP1 (Name can be different)
Extract 51050610_10, 51050610_11 and 51050610_12 to directory EXP2
Extract 51050610_13 and 51050610_13 to directory EXP3
Extract 51050610_15 to directory EXP4

3. Provide all 4 directories to SUM tool.

Please ensure that '/software/sap/Installation_Upgrade/ERP608/51050610_Upg_Exp4' doesn't exceed the 30 characters. Please name it like '/software/EHP8/EXP1', '/software/EHP8/EXP2' and so on.

Hello Stefan,

please create an incident on this (BC-UPG-TLS-TLA), and describe exactly the situation and conditions, including SUM version and patch level.

Thanks, Boris
