Error - Class type 200: class XXX_XX_XXX causes BOMs to be recursive

Hello Gurus,

I need to add a new class type 200 for material but facing below error:

Class type 200: class XXX_XX_XXX causes BOMs to be recursive

Message no. CL550

Diagnosis

Class XXX_XX_XXX of class type 200 is used as a class item in BOM xxxxxx.

This class contains materials either directly or via subordinate hierarchy levels. One of these materials is the material for which BOM xxxxxx has been created. This BOM will become recursive if you replace the class item with the material. This is not currently allowed.

Procedure

Change BOM xxxxxx. On the item screen for class item XXX_XX_XXX, define recursiveness as allowed.

Please advice what steps I need to follow to resolve this error?

Thanks all of you for your valuable replies.

My issues is resolved.

I found that the material is used in BOM of several plants. Due to which it was throwing the error as above.

I follow the below steps to assign the class-

1. Delete the configuration link of material in t-code CS41 for all the plants.

2. Assign the class type 200 in material classification view.

3. Again maintain the configuration link for all the plant as previous through t-code CS40.

Are you getting this message at the time of creating a class or while entering that in BOM?

If its while maintaining the BOM , please check at how many other places the class is being used, as you know if you try to use material in its own BOM it become recursive , in same way if you use a class which is being used in more then one level it also become recursive.
