Problem getting sub report to link with main report

Former Member

I have a report that contains a sub report that works correctly.

I have a second report that I want to use exactly the same sub report from the first report.

  • I have copied the sub report and inserted it
  • I have set the Sub Report Links to be exactly the same
  • I have set the record selection formulas to be exactly the same
  • The parameters are exactly the same
  • I can run the sub report independently and get data back

When i run the main report the sub report is blank

I have added the parameter field to the sub report and the when I run the main report I can now see the parameter fields so it is passing data.

However when i add the field that the parameter should populate it is NULL

Im really stuck as to why.

I can send the reports over to someone by email if they want to take a look.

Hi Sastry

I dont seem to have received anything.

It may be my corporate email policy blocking the attachment.

Could you try zipping it up and try again?

I would really like to try and get this fixed before the weekend.

If you cant email me back can you tell me what you did to fix it and I will try to duplicate?

Hi Allan,

Would you like to send the .rpt file with saved data to my e-mail as well?

I'll see what's going on.

I had a look at it yesterday and for whatever little time I spent, I didn't see any issues.

I'll try again today.

I think I have got it working, but cant work out why my change has made a difference.

I have added a Shared NumberVar = Entity_Id to the main report and made it available to the sub report.

Other that making the variable available I have done nothing else.

Hi Allan,

I see that you are mapping Main report fields to sub report parameters.  When you have same parameters in both main and sub report, try to link with Main report parameters with sub report parameters.

Also you can send the report to sastrydsvs(at)gmail

Thanks,

Yes the sub report works correctly on the first (original report)

Can you check if parameters getting passed through main report needs Trim or Uppercase and Lowercase if so we can apply Trim() and Case related functions.

Also make sure you link the sub reports properly as I see option Select data in sub report based on Grayed out.

Please compare that option with your working sub report.
