EHP8 upgrade error at SUM phase PREP_INPUT_CHECK/READDATA_EXP on E-Recruiting System

We're upgrading  SAP E-Recruiting (standalone) on Netweaver 7.4 to EHP8/Netweaver 7.5 and unfortunately running into the issue at the SUM (1.0 SP16 PL12) phase PREP_INPUT_CHECK/READDATA_EXP.

We put all the export DVDs of ERP and NetWeaver under EHP8 following the SAP Note but can't get through.

I found people have similar problems with the SEM-BW (. When we tried to follow the same approach of SEM-BW from the SAP guide Special Cases in Installation and Update | SCN,it didn't work because I guess SAP hasn't created additional product versions for ERECRUITING like SEM-BW in the SAP software catalog.  We can't simply get rid of the "SAP ERP 6.0" in LMDB without causing the verification error in the maintenance planner because it can't recognize the ERECRUIT any more.  So we had to add it back before we can generate the STACK.XML.  Then everything just get back to the beginning where the problem happens.  We raised an ticket (162093/2016) and SAP Support  gave a few suggestions which can't resolve it yet.

I wonder if someone has experienced this situation and could share any workaround or solution.

Hi Krzysiek, we tried the latest SUM SP17 patch 1 and the same problem exists.  At the early phase PREP_INPUT_CHECK/EXTRACKRN_PRE, I tried to enter the "NW750_MID:kernel" as you suggested but it doesn't accept it.  In fact, it asks for the "BS2016_SP01_MID" kernel DVD. 

However SUM determined the system as product type "NW".   At this point it seems obvious that SUM confused itself and something inconsistent in the logic has to be fixed.

I'm trying to upgrade my System since about 3 weeks but it's not possible because of this issue.

A ticket is already raised but no useful answer is delivered until now.

We were trying several SUM PL and changes in LMDB but none of these was the solution for the Problem.

Do somebody already have a solution for it or can give a hint?

Hi Bernhard,

I think the problem lies with stack.xml as its is calculating system as BusinessSuite 2016 when this is a Netweaver system with ERP components. Checking with different DVD will not help here as there is no DVD with product=NW and DVD-kit=BS2016_SP01_MID . I think we should focus on stack.xml generation part.

Do you have screenshots of stack.xml generation.

Hello Bernhard,

you should try to calculate a new stack.xml file, if not already done. The note 1326576 - SAP NetWeaver Systems Containing SAP ERP Software Components explains, that you should declare your system as an SAP ERP system, what you have already done.

There was a bug in maintenance planner, which calculated the EHP8 DVD for this scenario, instead of the correct Netweaver DVD. This bug was fixed today, kindly check the stack creation in MP again.

You can verify the calculated DVD, if you download the PDF at the end of stack calculation - this PDF contains the DVD needed for this upgrade.

We can't upgrade to EHP8.  Finally we took a different approach of upgrading to the EHP7 latest SPS with the ERECRUIT 617SP9.  Below is the upgraded version:

If you read the SAP note 550993 - Release strategy for ERECRUIT add-on, it says the ERECRUIT Add-on 617 is the last version SAP released therefore SP9 is the highest SP you can get no matter you upgrade to EHP7 or EHP8 (if possible).  I tried to ask SAP to clarify the release strategy for ERECRUIT on EHP8 but didn't get clear answer.

Hi Jerry,

We got answer from SAP that issue has been resolved on their side.

I can confirm now that we are able to complete the phase PREP_INPUT_CHECK/READDATA_EXP and when SUM asks for Kernel DVD it is no longer "BS2016_SP01_MID:kernel" but "NW750_MID:kernel".

However please note that it is required to generate new stack file from Maintenance Planner.

Hi Krzysiek,  have you finished your upgrade successfully? What does your target release look like? Can you please share more details how SAP resolved your issue on their end?  Did you open an OSS ticket? It's been a while since SAP worked on our ticket and I was wondering what's going on?

Hi Jerry,

In case, if you have plan to perform upgrade from EHP7 to EHP8 with E-Recruit in future then there is workaround needs to be applied from sap side for that you need to create OSS ticket in component BC-UPG-MP and get it done.
