SAP Kernel installation on 2 versions of Red Hat Linux

Hello,

We have a distributed SAP ERP installation with SCS and CI running on RHEL6 servers and SAP Oracle DB host running on RHEL5 server.

We want to update  SAP kernels on the system.

But we want to update upto 722_EXT version which is supported on RHEL6 only not on RHEL5. Does it matter for the DB host?

As we understand SAP kernel executables don't run on SAP DB host. Don't it?

Would there be any issues on DB host?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Your only option would be to update that DB server to RHEL6 and keep your kernel consistent across. For the mere fact that I seriously doubt SAP would support you presently given the difference in the environment. I try to preach at our company as well "consistency is key".

And like Isaias said it does not need the sap libraries, but remember there are still db specific libraries and I expect these should be consistent throughout the landscape. I would rather confirm with SAP AG for support contract reasons.

Kind Regards,

J

Hello,

The Oracle database does not need the SAP kernel files.

However, other dependencies / compatibility issues might arise.

I strongly recommend running an SAP system that is supported per the PAM (Product Availability Matrix).
