Kernel Upgradation

Dear Experts,

Our system is running IBM I(OS/400) and DB/400 - V6R1. Our SAP systems kernel is very much backdated(700). Please see the below image.

Now we want to upgrade the kernel to 721. My question is how to or what are the step by step guides to Install/Upgrade/Apply the kernels at OS400.

Previously I have done it at Oracle/HP-UX/Windows platform, but in IBM I series I am facing lots of confusing. Please anybody help me.

Regards,

ASad

Hi Asad,

If you do not want to upgrade/update the SAP System, but only switch the kernel from the original 7.00 to the downward compatible kernel 7.21, please refer to the following SAP notes which describes the procedure in detail (also for IBM i).

1716826 Usage of the downward compatible kernel 721 (EXT)

This SAP note describes the benefits and the requirements.

The SAP note describing the procedure of applying a 7.21 as DCK over a 7.00 kernel in detail is:

1713986 Installation of kernel 721 (EXT)

Here you get all the information you need and all links to further notes describing each step.

Be careful to follow them all!

Best regards,

Joachim
