Why we have 2 different SQLA Forums from SAP

Former Member

Hi Moderator

I noticed that SAP is running 2 different forums for SQLA.

This is the one I am posting into and another is: http://sqlanywhere-forum.sap.com/

Although when I click into SAP icon on the top, it lands to this forum only the discussions and members are different in both of them.

E.g. I tried find my recent post in the other forum and can't find it.

Anyone has an idea and any plan to merge them together when both managed by SAP.

Thanks

Ramendra

Hi Ramendra,

The reason is a bit historical - we had the SQLA forum from before Sybase was purchased by SAP. When we were invited to start a SQL Anywhere SCN space, we didn't want to disrupt the existing community of SQLA contributors, plus, we liked the OSQA platform and had heard from other SQLA customers that they preferred it too. Both are managed by SAP.

There is a "next generation" SCN currently in the works - see: Participating in Open Beta | Community Beta and the new "SAP Answers" platform: https://answers.sap.com/

The new SQL Anywhere community is also in the works: http://go.sap.com/community/topic/sql-anywhere.html

I suspect when the SCN beta is concluded, there will be more information about the future direction of the Q&A forums for SQL Anywhere.

Best regards,

- Jeff

I'd not expect that both forums will be merged. Here's a – possibly helpful – hint from that other forum:

Will SAP Community Network eventually replace this forum ? - SQLA Forum

That being said, what postings have you made recently in the SQL Anywehre Forum that you cannot find anymore - topic, username, etc.?

Hi Volker

Thanks for your reply!

My intention was to basically know if we are able to retain and reuse the knowledge from the other forum.

I believe if the solution of a problem already known, we should able to utilize the info. rather than raising duplicate questions.

If this is happening and both the forums are in sync, then its good.

But, I tried searching this thread e.g. http://scn.sap.com/thread/3931163 and can't able to find it.

I also tried using my SAP Support ID (which I am using in this forum) to login but no success.

If you are aware and have logical reasons to do it then its ok with me.

Thanks

Ramendra

No, these are two different forums and their contents is in no way sync'ed - at least AFAIK. See, I'm just another customer (and happen to have moderator status on that other forum).

If you are searching for SQL Anywhere related FAQs, I'd suggest to simply use the usual search facilities to do so - they will list hits from both forums (and possibly from the former NNTP groups, as well).

The SQL Anywhere Forum has its own (and well-working IMHO) search facility, too, and furthermore it allows to tag questions and shows related questions...

As to the login questions:

I hope these two links help:
