Hi All,
I need clarity. What are some of the risks associated with Converting a CR 2008 report version to SSRS as compared to CR 2013 report version. Why would it be less risky converting a CR 2013 report version to SSRS as opposed to a CR 2008?. Also are there any compatibility issues associated with report conversion from CR to SSRS in terms versions?nI hope this makes sense
Thanks in advance.
Hi Dimpho,
SSRS and Crystal Reports are two separate products!
If you plan to convert reports created in CR to SSRS, you'd have to consider functionality differences between the two tools - what works in CR may not work in SSRS, SSRS may have its own functionality. You'd also need to consider the fact that you'd probably need to build these reports from ground up in the new tool.
Upgrading to CR 2013 from CR 2008 should not be a lot of trouble as its the same software.

Hi Dimpho,
The most notable differences between the two versions are:
1) CR 2013 supports exporting to .xlsx (Data Only)
2) CR 2013 supports exporting to .rptr format - which is a design locked .rpt format. Meaning, other users can't copy the report's design or even look at it.
And it goes without saying that CR 2013 (and now CR 2016) support more databases and platforms.
Please have a look at this document that lists differences by version:
