Hi all,

Which has better future in SAP field: XI or EDI/IDocs? What should I focus on? Or do they always go hand in hand so I should learn both? Please refer to documents/files or threads if needed...

Thanks,

Charles.

XI is called now PI and it's a SAP product to support communication between systems. EDI/Idocs are a way of communication. XI/PI also supports EDI/Idocs as a way of communication.

So It makes no sense to compare them.

Hello,

I don't know much about XI; Do both go hand in hand or you can choose one of them for communication? Actually I did not mean to compare them. I just wanted to know that would it help to know about XI if I want to be really good in EDI/ALE? Would Microsoft's Biztalk knowledge help me in any way?

Thanks,

Charles?

High-level MS Biztalk knowledge is of great value for SAP consultants involved in interfaces...just like WebMethods its basically a middleware.

I don't know anything about XI but I know they are different technologies for interfacing. One can use EDI/ALE method when deploying XI...but first step would be to enhance your knowledge in ALE/EDI/IDocs before going on to XI path. Also, JAVA knowledge is essential for XI, if you are a techie as XI works both in JAVA and ABAP stacks of the App server.

Regards.
