Pawan,

try this: in the namespace of SAP sw component, which is set up to "be able" importing objects from R/3 (ECC), there is a item: Imported obejcts. Right click, select r/3 system and import IDoc metadata. If imported (and activated), it can be used as exchange message for sending or retrieving. Info: idoc does not need to be wrapped in message interface, it worx as interface itselfs, so you can use it directly in interface mapping.

Pawan,

XI is a middleware tool, which mainly deals with message flow. So here we require a source message and a target message. If suppose we have to integrate between R3 and legacy system, in that case R3 system can send a source message to XI either by IDOC or RFC. Now in XI using the imported IDOC or RFC we convert the source message into target structure and send the message to legacy system using appropirate channel.

Hope this is clear.

Pawan,

IDOC is an Intermediate document , no way its helping SAP XI. If R/3 system wants to integrate with for example Legacy system (AS/400) then R/3 system sends only data through IDOC/RFC/PROXY . Hence IDOC is transferring mechanism of R/3 where XI can receive the IDOC and transfer to the receiving system format.

Hope it clears!!

Idoc does not help XI.

XI helps data to be transferred from SAP systems using Idocs to other SAP and non-SAP systems. Idocs could be considered as a format of data.
