I have posted a weblog that makes a case for SAP back-porting the new ABAP editor to older WebAS Releases:
/people/thomas.jung3/blog/2005/08/09/speak-your-voice-new-abap-editor-for-older-releases
I am suggesting that if you wish to support such a development by SAP that you please reply to this forum posting simply stating what release you would like to see the new editor back-ported to. Please be realistic (no 3.0F is not realistic). What version of the WebAS do you really think you will be developing on for the next few years.
We have an opportunity to have voices heard and perhaps make a difference!

Hi Thomas,
I would say that the new editor should be available from ver 6.20.
Thanks

Currently we are using 4.6c, but the next year we will upgrate to 620. So 620 it's a nice idea.

Let us all post our remarks in the web log. This has a high(er)visibility.

I'll post this on both ('forum' and 'weblog'):
SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 with
- SAP_BASIS 620
- SAP_ABA 620
- SAP_APPL 470
- Kernel 6.40

Speaking of a challenge Serious now, the message is indeed more importnat than the means.

I totally agree with Eddy:
>...the message is indeed more important than the means...
What does everybody think of making SDN an offical institution for addressing development requests to SAP (like DSAG, ASUG, etc.)?
Is there already a discussion/statement regarding this idea? (Shall i create a new forum-post or weblog? Maybe Craig or Mark are the right persons to turn to...)
Comments welcome...
Best regards
Jürgen

If the demand is good, I also considered taking this request through ASUG and trying to start a Influence Council on the topic. I am the Special Interest Group Chair for Web Technologies at ASUG, so I could introduce the topic. The more support I can show through SDN, the better the chances of getting an Influence Council approved.

We are on 4.6C, so it would be nice to have the new editor on 4.6C.

I dont care either, but we should post in a single location. I suggest Thomas Jung, as the thread "owner", makes the decision and then we stick to it.
Thomas, your turn

Hi,
even I'm working on a pretty new installation, this is 'only' 620.
So I expect to have customers with 620 and 640 in the next few years.
Greetings,
Christian

I agree with Eddy - it is a reasonable level also in my opinion. //Johan

Most of us still working in 4.6C releases, so ... it would be nice if it works on 46.
What about building an external application such as the Graphical Screen Painter? this will provide us to build programs apart from SAP release where we're working on

Hi folks!
When the plan for the next years is in question, then I try to estimate the lifetime of a system until a major release upgrade.
Figuring 3-5 years, I guess most 4.6C installations will get an upgrade in the next 2-3 years. Then they would profit of a 640 (or even newer) version.
But then still a lot of 620 systems will be running.
And then the time for back-porting will lead to some upgraded 4.6C systems...
I just hope, it's not so difficult and time consuming, because the new features sounded really interesting!
Regards,
Christian
